Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 A Better Full Sheet Music Reader

Stop squinting at 9″ tablets with a full page music sheet reader

By Stephen Pate – Many musicians converted to tablets over the years for their sheet music.

After the first enthusiasm for not having to carry books and books to gigs, the iPad format of 9.7″ becomes a drag. It’s just too small for A4 or 8.5″ x 11″ sheet music.

The programs either shrink the sheet music and we’re squinting at the tiny text or you turn the tablet sideways and get full-sized music but only half the page.

All that ends when you get a 12″ tablet which should have the same screen size as the sheet music. No more squinting or half pages.

Apple just legitimized the 12″ tablet with the expensive iPad Pro but there are other solutions. Microsoft has sold  the 12″ Surface for several years but the aspect ratio is not right for A4 pages.

A better solution for about half the price of the iPad Pro is the Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 which sells around $550 US for the 32 GB model.  A similar model called the Tab Pro does not have the pencil for notations.

The Galaxy NotePro has 3 GB RAM and a 12.2-inch 2560×1600 WQXGA Display which makes a dandy sheet music tablet.

From Paper to Pixels – Your Guide to the Digital Sheet Music Revolution is an excellent guide to moving your sheet music to a tablet. The author has 12 years of experience that saved me months of effort. He is biased towards the Apple iPad but that’s not uncommon. Highly recommended.

You can add another 64GB of SD storage if you have a very large music library and want it local. Other storage solutions include Dropbox, Google Drive and OneDrive.

Available from Amazon.com, .ca, co.uk, and .de.

While the Apple iPad Pro is a wonderful device, you don’t need it for displaying sheet music with several apps that do a great job. The Samsung Galaxy NotePro is more than adequate.

There are several very good Android apps for sheet music and I will cover that in another article. If you have a favorite Android sheet music app, please leave a comment.

Another choice is the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 .
