By Dan Politi Slate – A driver turned a summer evening on one of California’s most popular boardwalks into a horrific scene as he drove his car car straight into a crowd, killing one person, and injuring 11. Witnesses claim the driver appeared to have full control over his car and was purposefully trying to hit people during the hit-and-run that went on for several blocks.
“The driver was out for blood,” one witness told a local CBS affiliate. The driver fled the scene but police are questioning a man who turned himself in after the incident. (Update: Police arrested Nathan Louis Campbell, 38, who walked into a police station two hours after the incident saying he was involved, reports the Associated Press. The motive remains unclear.)
