Mumford and Sons in new film at SXSW

Big Easy Express is a train ride from LA to New Orléans starring Mumford and Sons with Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and Old Crow Medicine Show

A new film about a rock and roll train ride will première at SXSW on March 17th at the Paramount Theatre – three rock bands on the road, the railroad, across the US South.

The train is a metaphor for life on the road. In England the train means going somewhere today. In America and Canada, the train was the way out west, to adventure and a new life.  Folk, blues, country and rock and roll all pay homage to the train and going nowhere but somewhere on the rails.

The Beatles road the train for the film A Hard Day’s Night. Janis Joplin, Gerry Garcia and other rock greats rode the train across Canada to perform in local shows in Festival Express.

Big Easy Express

“3 bands, 6 cities, 1 train, and thousands of miles of track…BIG EASY EXPRESS captures a musical journey. Harkening back to the days of jubilant railroad revivals, three bands set out in April 2011 to tour America by vintage train.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Old Crow Medicine Show, and Mumford & Sons climbed aboard amid the rail yards of Oakland and set out for New Orléans on a “tour of dreams.”

BIG EASY EXPRESS documents the bands’ railway adventures; the high canyons, joyous crowds, blasted skies, late-night laughter, endless music…and a train that was bound for glory.” SXSW

Stay tuned for more about the film’s distribution post SXSW.

SXSW is a meeting of the brightest, newest and most intriguing music, film and interactive artists. Last year there were 2098 acts on 92 stages. More than 10,000 bands applied to be on those stages. SXSW is a must event for up-and-coming acts. This year’s show starts on March 9th.
