Time to get back to the studio

One day to finish wiring studio monitor bridge before recording Dylan’s Birthday song

I’m under the gun to finish re-wiring the studio today if I want to get a song recorded for Bob Dylan’s 70th Birthday on May 24, 2011.

Last week I tore down my home recording studio to renovate.  After a week of small projects, this body is protesting “too much work.”

The existing halogen lights were being replaced by LED lighting which will be cooler and cheaper to operate.

It took two weeks to assemble the parts and get the bulbs from Home Depot.

The actual take down and installation of the new tracks, fixtures and lighting only took a day.

While I was at it, I got the boys to move the piano on Mother’s Day so I could install the last two bass traps from Real Traps in the corner behind the piano.

New LED lights are low heat more efficient than halogen

While my friend was putting up the lights with help from the girls, I moved the pre-amps, AD/DA converter, monitor switch and power bars into the new monitor bridge. Why not, eh? The rack was in his way. The outboard gear had been in a floor rack where they were hard to see.

Moving the piano jostled the front leg.  That was a job to jack the piano up and straighten the leg. The thing ways 500 lbs.

Today the last thing to do is re-wire the back of the monitor bridge, put the monitors and sub-woofer back in place and test the system.

I might try to make a cable management system if things get messy.

Tomorrow I have to start recording or I’ll never get the song done in time for the 24th.

After that I’ll sand the holes in the ceiling and touch up the paint. It’s a never-ending project.

One project naturally leads to another.
