Disabled now an environmental hazard

Marcia Carroll - DARfP of the week on the eternal struggle between the disabled and the environment

DARfP is our acronym for dumb ass replies from politicians or other public officials.

People with disabilities have been blamed for lots of silly things – being possessed by demons, taking the best parking spots, costing too much for building renovations.

We are now in a struggle – no we have always been in a struggle with the environment according to Marcia Carroll CEO if PEI’s Council of People with Disabilities.

I never saw myself as an enemy of the environment until now. Something else to worry about if I paid any attention to the feckless leader of PEI’s official disability organization.

Perhaps in 59 years of living with a disability something eluded my attention. This never came up before in a decade of disability advocacy. I scoured my books, Googled until my fingers were stiff and couldn’t find any references of merit on the topic.

Carroll must be filling in for our local politicians who are the usual source for our DARfP awards. So this week’s Dumb Ass Reply goes to Marcia Carroll head of the PEI Council of People with Disabilities for pitting us in the endless struggle with the environment.

Is this the same Marcia Carroll who thinks it’s fine for UPEI to remove accessible parking? The same one who plagiarizes her press releases? The same one who heads the group that stands shoulder to shoulder with the government in abusing Islanders with disabilities. Sadly yes.
