Worldwide Recalls for Toyota Prius Hybrid

The Prius is being recalled because of complaints about a faulty braking system.

Toyota Prius now brake problems

From Slate – Toyota executives told Japanese government officials today that the company would be moving forward with plans to recall about 400,000 Prius hybrids.

Nearly 200,000 of the hybrids will be recalled in Japan alone, with another 150,000 recalls affecting U.S. consumers; the remainder will be recalled in Europe and other markets.

We have a Prius and the brakes do chatter and fade, especially over bumps. There were 2 million of the Prius hybrid sold. Which years are being recalled? sp

Toyota “has said it redesigned the anti-lock braking system for Prius cars produced since last month,” AFP reported, but that won’t help customers who purchased cars before then; they have reported problems braking at slow speeds, over bumps and potholes and on slippery roads.

“Exactly what the solution’s going to be I can’t tell you but I can assure you that we’re going to do whatever’s necessary,” Jim Lentz, the president of Toyota’s U.S. sales arm, told Digg.com.

“We are working on a solution and we hope to have a solution for that very soon.”

The announcement does not come at a good time for the Japanese automaker, which has recalled millions of other vehicles because of sticking accelerators, resulting in a loss of market share. Before the problem with the accelerators could be resolved, Toyota halted production and sales on eight different models, some of them among the most popular in the U.S.

The Toyota Prius is really a great car, I think with cars like this we can save a lot of money and gas.
