The climate change summit at the UN was attended by world leaders including Barack Obama. Canada’s Stephen Harper was in NYC but did not go

The September 22nd, 2009 UN summit on climate change was snubbed by Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper. The Canadian government has done virtually nothing but stall on climate change despite signing the Kyoto protocol.

Harper’s pro-business anti-environmental policies mirror those of former President George W. Bush who ignored the whole issue. Bush was pro-business development and took Harper under his wing.

In the meantime the world’s environmental disaster gets closer. Scientists tell us we may be getting to a Tipping Point at which serious damage to the world becomes inevitable.

The excuses CTV lays out for Harper are ludicrous. It is more important of for Harper to meet with the Mayor of New York City and attend a climate change conference. Sure it is.

President Obama gave a speech with all the right words and sentiments on cleaning up the environment. However, the US Senate and Congress will not likely ratify anything that looks green.

Obama has so many change issues to fight, he will have to start picking the ones he really wants because US legislators are not going to give him carte blanche.

While US environmentalists make headlines with Al Gore’s Inconvenient Truth, the mood is the US is all about jobs, even as another weather disaster kills 9 people in the Atlanta floods this week.

The US knew about the flood problems in New Orleans but did nothing until Hurricane Katrina broke the levees and flooded the city.

C’mon Steve the sky is not falling. Canada is locked into whatever the USA does.
Admit it. TO get out of step would be financial suicide!

We do trade with the Americans and they are our most important customer. However, our policies can and have been different. Canada has socialist health care and many Americans are opposed to it.

I think calling the Americans names is poor customer relations but we can and do have a different policy on energy for instance.

    Still a sovereign country
