“There is the law, and there is ethics. What might be legal, sometimes is not ethical. What might be legally defensible, in a hair-splitting or tightly defined way, does not pass a reasonable smell test of proper ethical conduct. Jeffery Simpson, Globe and Mail Conduct unbecoming

The past two weeks we witnessed Canada’s former Prime Minister admit he took cash envelopes in hotel rooms, failed to report his income for tax purposes, blame crown prosecutors for not asking the right question, blame his friends and enemies for his troubles and invoke the memory of his father in defense. No one watching could feel anything but revulsion from his equivocation.

It was a sad performance that bought him nothing but the disrespect of Canadians. If Mulroney was within the law, he was certainly not doing the ethical thing.

The Music PEI board of Directors may be legally correct, although we dispute that. They are not however ethically correct in awarding themselves more than half of the grant money they get from PEI. The money is meant to help starving artists not fat cats.

The directors may or may not get away with it. What they will surely get is the reputation for putting themselves. Music PEI Director admits he will dip into the piggy bank
