Subject: Oh baby baby

By Stephen Pate, NJN Network, Charlottetown, PEI, Canada, March 23, 2009

I was trying to track down a few requests with Webtrix our sys admin and got this reply

“Which request are do you want? “Hmmm”, “Heh babe”, “Oh baby baby”, “Webtrix where are you” and “Oh baby, sweet baby”

It hadn’t dawned on me that the subject was supposed to be about “the subject” not some hip get-your-attention-now-line. Obviously my attempts at over-familiar repartee were falling on deaf ears, or blind eyes as it were, since none of these emails got a response. There is a case to be made that the comments are sexist and inappropriate for the business world. However, I’m a wonky writer who stops at 2 am and starts again at 4:30 AM. Things can get loosey goosey off the page, if you know what I mean. In a desire to get positive responses, I’m swearing off requests for feature changes while listening to hip hop. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it. I’m also clicking on the humour category in case some self-righteous person thinks they should picket my office for sexist behaviour.
