Mom gets action after family of autistic girl kicked out of restaurant

By Sarah Seymour

A Phone call was made by Rob Sroka Vice President of Smitties Canada this monrning it included an apology for the being removed and the following action will take place

1. Emergency Staff meeting called for tomorrow for all Edmonton restaurants where staff will be briefed on what Autism is, and also provided with some sensitivity training

2. Smitties would like to become a sponser of the Autism Cause. I have put them in contact with Autism Speaks and suggested they sell blue puzzle pieces that people can write their names on to raise money for the Autism Speaks Walk on Sept 7 in Edmonton as well as have some kind of special fun ndraising day, like Tim Hortons has a camp day.

Sarah Seymour is really glad that smitty’s has offered a verbal apology and that there are fundraising plans in the works.

The CTV newstory coverage today was really awesome and I will post a link to the story as soon as it is available online. It was the second story of the night on the news 🙂

A CBC radio story will be following tomorrow.

I am optomistic that a “merger” between Autism Speaks and Smittys will be a positive and long lasting outcome from this stressful situation – lemonaide out of lemons 🙂

I don’t know whether they will listen to Autism Speaks (as I was under the impression Autism Speaks is only an American charity), but I recommend putting them in touch with a different charity — one that will actually make a difference. I have more information here on Squidoo about Autism Speaks if you need more information.
