Legislature is a sideshow

I was getting coffee at the Farmers’ Market yesterday. One of our MLA’s walked towards me.

“How are you doing Stephen Pate?”

“Fine,” I said wondering what was coming next.

“Well the sideshow is over.”

“Sideshow?” I asked.

“Yes it’s just a sideshow being in the Legislature. That one is over and now we get ready for the next one.”

“Well it may be a sideshow but we didn’t fare too well,” I added.

“Who?”

“Islanders with disabilities,” I replied. “We got none of the things promised and the Minister admitted a cutback making a $35,000in our budget. Guess I just have to keep on his back to make sure he does what was promised.”

“Oh you’d be good at that,” came the retort as our MLA walked away.

All this time we thought they were governing the Province, working to make PEI a better place. To the MLAs it’s just a sidewhow, something for the media.

No wonder they keep feeding us bread and circuses, like pop in cans, instead of programs to improve life for Islanders.
