SUMMERSIDE – Adam Bourque got to experience all the fanfare that goes along with winning the Stanley Cup on Saturday.

The 28-year-old Summerside native, who won CBC’s Bring Home the Stanley Cup video contest, was cheered on by hundreds of supporters as he entered the Credit Union Place through a smoke and light show.
Bourque was then handed the Stanley Cup by the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Keeper of the Cup, Mike Bolt, and did some victory laps around the arena to the delight of the crowd.

After a kiss for the cup, Bourque left for home and it was NHL legend Mark Messier’s turn to stir up the Summerside fans.
Messier, one of the NHL’s greatest leaders, said Bourque’s passion for the game personified what hockey is all about.

“Adam has proven that he’s a huge hockey fan, but (his disability) doesn’t stop him from living out his dream and playing hockey, watching the game and being a big fan of it,” said Messier.

The six-time Stanley Cup champion then took several minutes to sign autographs for fans lined up around the arena before hopping into a convertible with the Cup for a parade to Bourque’s house on MacDonald Crescent to meet the country’s biggest hockey fan.

Messier played a spirited street hockey game with Bourque and his friends before heading inside the V.I.P. tent to watch the Dallas Stars defeat the Detroit Red Wings in Game 5 of their Western Conference final series.
