‘Keep writing those letters’

It’s encouraging that more and more people know that the government took $1 million from the Disability Support Program. Stories in the media like CBC TV last night, in the Guardian, Journal Pioneer and Graphic help. This blog plays a part too.

Last night I was in Wal-Mart rummaging in the cheap DVD bin. A local politician approached and said with a warm smile

‘You’re that fellow on TV tonight.’

He proceeded to praise me up and down. I protested that I was nothing.

‘No’ he said ‘You’re something special, a natural star.’

We talked a bit about people who are suffering both here and in other parts of the world. You could tell he had a sincere concern for people. He said as he left

‘Keep doing what you’re doing. People need you.’

Wasn’t that nice?

It happened again today at the Farmer’s Market. Hannah and I were sitting at a table having the usual treat of French toast. A senior sitting at the table said

‘You write those letters to the paper. Isn’t it amazing that the amount of money they took from disabled people is the same amount that Mitch Murphy says he saved. That’s where it went.’

I mentioned that it was Michael LeClair that made the connection but she would not be dissuaded.

‘Keep writing those letters. I like to read them.’

Letter writing works. If you feel the urge, do it. Write the paper: you can do it from the internet. Write the Premier. Just click on the links at the top of the right hand column.

We are going to win this one and you can make a difference. Thanks for your support. Islanders with disabilities need it.
