The October 28th release has been edited by Christopher Ricks, author of Dylan’s Visions of Sin, the authoritative work on Dylan’s lyrics and Julie and Lisa Nemrow.

Al Kooper said “Bob is the equivalent of William Shakespeare. What Shakespeare did in his time, Bob does in his time.”

Christopher Ricks, editor of T. S. Eliot, Samuel Beckett, Tennyson, The New Oxford Book of Victorian Verse and The Oxford Book of English Verse , agrees with Al Kooper adding the authority of his scholarly achievements to this edition of Dylan’s lyrics.

In the words of Ricks: “For fifty years, all the world has delighted in Bob Dylan’s books of words and more than words: provocative, mysterious, touching, baffling, not-to-be-pinned-down, intriguing, and a reminder that genius is free to do as it chooses. And, again and again, these are not the words that he sings on the initially released albums.”

This edition changes things, giving us the words from officially released studio and live recordings, as well as selected variant lyrics and revisions to these, recent revisions and retrospective ones; and, from the archives, words that, till now, have not been published.

The Lyrics: Since 1962, edited with diligence by Christopher Ricks, Lisa Nemrow, and Julie Nemrow. As set down, as sung, and as sung again.

Julie Nemrow and Lisa Nemrow are publishers of UN-GYVE PRESS.

Bob Dylan is one of the most celebrated songwriter and performer of all time. He has released thirty-five studio albums with hits ranging from “Blowin’ in the Wind” and “Like a Rolling Stone” to “All Along the Watchtower,” “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,” and “Make You Feel My Love.” He has been awarded the French Legion of Honor, a Pulitzer Prize Special Citation, and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country’s highest civilian honor. His memoir, Chronicles: Volume One, spent a year on the New York Times bestseller list.

Parenthetically,  the 960 page hardcover edition is more than the aging arms of Dylan’s original fans might be able to wield but relief is found in the Kindle version saving both their strength, a few trees and a cool $130.

The text comes from the publisher Simon & Schuster and the featured image from an earlier edition since the publisher has yet to release a cover photo.
