Saturday April 14th was the start of the PC Party of PEI’s election campaign in Tignish PEI.

It was coincidentally the start of Disability Alert’s Tour of Hope in Tignish PEI.

The weather has been anything but spring like this April and a small snow storm on Friday almost disrupted everyone’s plans. Saturday turned out to be cold, windy and snow flurries. but we enjoyed meeting the people of West Prince and letting them know the DSP needs to be fixed.
The Disability Alert Tour of Hope hit Tignish about lunchtime. We talked to some folks, put up some posters and then held a peaceful protest at the Fire Hall site.
We handed out 100 Disability Quick Facts so there were at least that many in attendance. Olive Crane and some guy with a Tim Horton’s tried to get us to move along but we stayed the hour. Wes MacAleer, my neighbour, was out of the hospital and there with a car load of people.

People stopped to say hello, ask what it was about, and were always friendly and hospitable. I needed a hat to protect against the cold and the clerk at the Co-Op asked if a) we were from out of town b) what we did and c) the people the paper talked about.

One lady stopped to talk about a young person she knew with a disability. She offered a donation. The kindness of people is always heart warming.

One comment from Tignish on the Guardian website said

“Any premier that would cut money from people with a disability should hide his face from the people of Prince Edward Island. He should go back to his bean farm. He hurt PEI in every way he could the past ten years.
