By Stephen Pate – Telus Mobility has a secret discount of $20 per month for new accessibility activations. Bell Mobility will quickly match it.
The discount is supposed to be for the deaf, hard of hearing and blind, in other words an accessibility discount. Usually that requires a medical certification; however, this week Telus phone sales agents will allow the discount for 24 months no questions asked.
Both Telus and Bell have a variety of device and plan specials for Black Friday. This disability discount is a secret. I suspect it will disappear as fast at it arrived.
When I contacted Bell Mobility on their Chat, they matched the discount without batting an eye.
Both networks are bumping the 1 GB data plan to 5 GB for their Black Friday event. The extra $20 discount makes this a very sweet deal.
Telus Accessibility features
Telus offers a wide range of accessibility features, phone and plans. Start here to explore them. What intrigued me was the page below that with this offer:
“Discounted mobile phone rate plans
The term “hard of hearing” is common and can describe a continuum from deaf to someone wearing a hearing aid. I assumed there was a form to fill out but when I called the number, the sales agent offered the discount for 24 months if I signed up right away, no form required.
“How to apply
Unfortunately he said he had to call me back and I had set my phone on do-no-disturb.
Bell Mobility offers same $20 discount
When Telus didn’t call back I went on the Bell Mobility site. Bell offered the same $20 discount. No questions about hard of hearing asked. it was probably a competitive quote.
I signed up with Bell – unlimited Canada wide calling, 5 GB data for $65. Rates in Manitoba and Quebec are even cheaper.
Bell usually offers an additional 2 GB of data for people with disabilities and other special services. The extra 2 GB is probably off the table. I don’t know. Take the time to explore all of Bell Mobility’s accessibility features and services.
Good luck shopping.
