Canadians can avoid all those nasty political ads from all parties by cutting the cable and getting Netflix
By Stephen Pate – The next 11 weeks in Canada are going to be filled with negative political ads that hammer on the weaknesses of the various party leaders over and over.
Seeing them once is enough. The news outlet say the Conservatives have $50 million worth of nasty ads to put in our homes.
We love our TV entertainment so I’ve come up with a quick and cost-effective solution.
Cancel your cable TV service and get Netflix on high-speed internet. Most people are paying $80 to $100 a month for cable. Netflix only costs $7.99 a month for all the movies and shows you can watch, most of them in HD.
Netflix is also an effective political ad blocker in the United States.
With Netflix you can watch more than 10,000 movies and television shows without a single advertisement. That’s right. Not one ad ever intrudes on your entertainment enjoyment. Hour long TV shows whiz by in 41 minutes without any offers of deodorant or shampoo to wash that politician out of our hair.
These are not just any shows and movies. Netflix has some of the best US and Canadian shows and movies plus documentaries that never hit TV, BBC and other foreign shows and movies. And you can do the new thing which is binge watch your favourite series show after show after show.
If you are a sports fan you can subscribe to MLB or NHL directly for a single annual fee. I recommend you get a Roku3 ($99) or Apple TV device ($89) to make the Netflix and internet TV experience fun and easy if your TV doesn’t have a good smart TV feature.
Netflix also frees you from the broadcast schedule of the networks and cable companies. You can start and stop watching at your convenience not theirs.
We’ve had Netflix for 2 years and cut the cable last year because Netflix is all we want. This spring we stayed in a hotel for 3 months while I was in cardiac rehab. I just hated having to watch commercials and know when a program started.
Again, there are no ads on Netflix so you don’t have to worry that Stephen Harper is going to come on the screen, smile and stick a knife in Justin Trudeau or Thomas Mulclair.
Of course, we are patriotic Canadians so every week or so you can check the papers or internet news for the latest pompous promises or bombastic bias of the various parties. The internet has cool articles that also do reality checks on the various platforms to separate the spin from the facts.
