Trouble Connecting Disconnecting Your Bose Soundlink Color?

Bose SoundLink Color

Your Soundlink Color Bluetooth speaker may need an update

By Stephen Pate – After 2 months of smooth operation, my Bose Soundlink Color speaker started acting up. It would cycle on “Connect to iPad” then “Disconnect iPad“.  With the voice system that gets on your nerves.

The solution is a call to Bose Support 1-800-380-4831 for a bios update. It’s not complicated and if you want to do it yourself, here’s the link and steps.

Bose Soundlink Color updated

Bose Soundlink Color updated

  1. Connect your Bose Soundlink Color to your computer via the USB cable
  2. Go to updates.bose.com/soundlinkcolor
  3. Download and install the Updater software
  4. Run the updater software
  5. The software will tell you if there is an available update
  6. While the device is getting updated, delete the Soundlink Color from any devices you want to connect
  7. Turn off Bluetooth on the devices
  8. When the update is done, disconnect from the computer
  9. Press and hold the Bluetooth button until it’s blue
  10. Turn on the device, connect to the Soundlink Color (repeat for each device)
  11. Should work

After the update I found the sound had less bass and was more detailed. It’s still my fave Bluetooth speaker.

Update – October 2016 – I’ve had on and off problems with the Bluetooth connection on both iPhone and iPad. It helped to totally discharge the Sound Color. Also the latest iOS 10.1 works without any hitches.

Why Bose doesn’t automate the process is anyone’s guess.

The latest upgrade is the  Bose Soundlink Color 2 available from Amazon.com and Amazon.ca in Canada,  Amazon.co.uk in the UK and  Amazon.de in the European Union.

Thanks you confirmed my suspicion of the sound being cleaner or less boom/muddy. I also noticed that Bluetooth volume adjustments are now behaving as they should again in iOS 9 beta. In iOS 9 beta the Bluetooth volume was erratic and sometimes volume would be too quiet or just go immediately to full volume when the volume control was depressed on the soundlink color. This update has corrected the issue and the sound quality has considerably improved while retaining bass – more punch less boom – improved details.

The only outputs on the back of the unit are power and aux in. How do I connect it to a usb and hook up to a computer with those?

Frustrated and going to throw this thing out,

    Hi Jussi,

I was having this same problem, but have solved it. On Mac, my solution was to use the link above (http://updates.bose.com/soundlinkcolor) instead of the software included on the device.

    Hope this helps you

My Bose speaker connects to my pc; i hear the sound that it has connected. I updated the speaker but it wont turn on. The speaker has been connected to 3 different chargers for about 20 minutes each as well as to my pc. None of the chargers turned on the speaker and I don’t understand how the pc makes a connected sound yet the speaker doesn’t turn on. Can anyone help?

  5. Try resetting the speaker’s memory. https://www.bose.ca/en_ca/support/article/pairing-with-a-bluetooth-device-soundlink-color.html

Other than that call Bose for support.
