Donations Pour In For Families Of Slain Moncton Mounties

Rotary Club of Moncton initiates mobile Giving Campaign to support families of fallen RCMP Officers in wake of tragedy

By Stephen Pate – The hearts of Maritimers and all Canadians go out to the families of the slain RCMP officers in last week’s tragedy in Moncton, NB.

The Rotary Club of Moncton, in partnership with the Mobile Giving Foundation Canada (MGFC) and the RCMP Foundation, encourages Canadians to support the families of the RCMP Officers that were slain in the Moncton shootings earlier this week.

Canadian Cell Phone Users Can Now Donate $20 via Text Message to the RCMP Memorial Fund by texting the keyword MONCTON to the shortcode 45678 to make a $20 donation

Text-donation-scn-1Wireless phone customers from across Canada can make a donation to support these families by simply texting 45678,

and the keyword Moncton to the  to make a $20 donation.

You will be asked to complete the donation with E for English or F for French.

Then confirm with YES.

The donation will appear on the your monthly wireless bill.

100% of the donation will go directly to the families of this week’s fallen RCMP in Moncton care of the RCMP Foundation.

As of noon Monday, more than $50,000 had been raised by texting. The Bank of Montreal BMO also announced that it will be taking donations at all its branches across Canada for the families of the fallen Mounties.

Donations can also be made directly to the website of the RCMP foundation with PayPal and credit cards.

As the city of Moncton begins its healing from the unspeakable tragedy of this week, we must look forward to the future needs of the families that were impacted by this senseless crime,” said Steve Beyea, President of the Rotary Club of Moncton. “These families will need all of our support not just today, but for the years ahead.”

“A simple text message donation takes just seconds to complete”, said Bernard Lord, President of the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA) and Chair of MGFC. “Mobile giving is a way in which Canadians from coast-to-coast can immediately express their support for these families“.

We are all saddened by the tragic loss of these brave RCMP officers, and we grieve with their families,” said Carolyn Booth, Senior Vice-President, Atlantic Provinces Division, BMO Bank of Montreal.

We invite all Canadians to visit one of our branches to provide support to these families in their time of loss.”

The public are cautioned by authorities that these are the only legitimate places to donate to the families of the fallen Mounties.
