Watch Tom Petty 30th Anniversary Concert

Fans can watch a Tom Petty concert excerpt free on YouTube or buy the “Running Down The Dream” DVD or Blu-Ray

By Stephen Pate – For his 30th Anniversary Concert, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers returned to his home in Gainesville Florida for a concert filmed by director Peter Bogdanovich. Stevie Nicks is a guest vocalist during part of the concert.

You can watch an excerpt of the concert Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers ‘Running Down The Dream” on YouTube free on your computer. It’s low res 240p so it looks awful on television. The YouTube sound is decent because it came from the DVD.

A better way to enjoy the concert is the 4-disk DVD Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Runnin’ Down A Dream (4-Disc Set) DVD.

The whole concert is on Disk 3 plus a documentary of Tom Petty’s career spanning 30 years with the band and touring with Bob Dylan.

It’s only a DVD but if your TV or receiver upscale it will be almost the same as 1080p. “Running Down The Dream” got a 5 star rating from over 100 Amazon.com buyers.

Runnin’ Down A Dream (Blu-ray) (2010)

A slightly shorter film is also available on one Blu-Ray disc Runnin’ Down A Dream (Blu-ray), which has garnered the same glowing reviews. The Blu-Ray costs less than the DVD.  The sound on the Blu-Ray disc will be slightly better than the DVD but not 100% better.

Either the DVD or the Blu-Ray are awesome choices.

If you want just the Tom Petty official hit videos, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – Playback is awesome. Totally awesome. Some of his videos were ground breaking and look adventurous today.  “Playback” is a fave 2-disc DVD of mine. It’s a best of Tom Petty videos disc from the MTV days with all the great videos:
