Wow! The 12 12 12 Concert for Sandy Relief was one great rock concert. It was televised around the world, streamed online and shown in theaters as well.

Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, Eric Clapton, Dave Grohl, The Rolling Stones, Sir Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, Billy Joel, The Who, Roger Waters – even Adam Sandler murdering “Hallelujah.”

They are raising money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy. Do you know Drew Brees, New Orleans Saints quarterback, donated $1 million?

I don’t have that kind of money but I made a donation at Give Now.

If everyone who enjoyed the concert gave $10 it would raise a lot of money. The music was worth way more than that.

The music will be released on iTunes and on CD soon, that’s another way to give. Details are at the end of this story. They should release a DVD and Blu-Ray as well. Cut out the celebrity bits, or at least put it on an additional disk.

“While the revenue can get whittled down by production costs, Weinstein says corporate sponsorship will cover every penny of that. He pledges there’s “no overhead, no administration, no putting in for pizza to feed somebody. Nothing.”” NY Daily News

We missed the first 20 minutes so we came in just as Bruce Springsteen was singing. Awesome – everyone was there with Bruce – Max Weinberg, Steven Van Zandt,  Patti Scialfa. The Boss has it.

Before the Rolling Stones came on I had to go to bed, knowing the PVR was saving it for today and tomorrow.

Of course, the entertainment and line-up of stars was meant to get us excited to give for the Sandy relief fund. Mick Jagger said “If it rains in London, you’ve got to come and help us, OK?” Some people got upset with that but what they heck. He was just making a joke. Lighten up.

You can still give by clicking on 12 12 12 The Concert for Sandy Relief. All the money goes to relief and not to big corporations.

Samsung scooped Apple by donating Samsung Galaxy III phones and matching donations up to $3 million. Apple, under Steve Jobs, never contributed to any charities so he collected more cash than anyone else. What good does it do companies when they are not part of the world they live in? Kudos for Samsung.

Some guy donated $1 million to Whoopi Goldberg on camera. It was Stewart Rahr, the billionaire. Brian Williams was there and poof the camera cut away. What was that?

Here’s another of my favorite performances – The Rolling Stones “Jumping Jack Flash” with Mick, Ronnie Wood, Keith Richard and a smiling Charlie Watts.

Eric Clapton did a subdued acoustic performance of “Nobody Loves You When You’re Down and Out”. Then he followed with a blistering “Crossroads”. His guitar playing is simple but so great.

I’ve been listening to the concert all day from the other room where the TV is. There was a lot of great music. I didn’t care much for Roger Waters who spent his time slowing the night down.

What were your favorite songs?

If you’re feeling rich you can bid on celebrity items at 12 12 12 The Concert for Sandy Relief. An autographed bass guitar from Paul McCartney is going for $33,000. Dave Grohl’s drumsticks are $2,000. There are several autographed Fender Stratocasters donated by Fender. Good on Fender.

Good on everyone who supported this good cause. Here is a list of major corporate sponsors.

You can still make a donation at Give Now.

Getting the music

A lot of the songs are posted on YouTube.

Amazon.com is taking pre-orders for a 12-12-12 The Concert for Sandy Relief (2 CDs) of the music from The Concert for Sandy, due on January 15th, 2013 at $11.99.

Amazon.com makes this statement about proceeds to donations: “Columbia Records will donate a portion of the proceeds from the soundtrack to the Robin Hood Relief Fund, which is providing money, material and know-how to local organizations that are serving families and individuals in the regions hardest hit by the storm.” I will follow-up on that.

iTunes will release the downloads on December 17th, 2012 and you can pre-order at this link. The concert costs $12.99 and $11.70 of that goes to the Robin Hood fund for Sandy survivors. I have to wonder where the other $1.20 goes.
