Build a computer with SSD for $199

ECS A780LM-M2 AMD DiabloTek Barebones Kit $199 limited time offer

Tiger Direct sets new low price point for an SSD equipped computer

This is the lowest priced computer kit we’ve seen. At $199 for a limited time, you get a $270 Athlon bare-bones computer kit! The price expires March 31st, 2012.

At that price it’s like getting the SSD for nothing.

It surprised me to learn recently that big companies like Microsoft and Amazon.com don’t buy computers anymore. They build their own computers and servers from kits and parts.

Most of the computers in the stores and from Dell contain parts and software that cost more and slow down the system.

The kits in this story are for illustration purposes.

The real kits and their components change often at Tiger Direct.

If the kit in this story is not available, it always has a replacement with similar or better features and price. Click on the link on the page and check out Computer Parts – Barebone Kits.

It’s all in the coupons that go with the kit. The memory and DVD drive coupons expire March 31st and the motherboard on April 12th, 2012.

What’s amazing about this kit is the 60 GB SSD drive which is a premium product. You’ll probably want to slap in a larger HDD.

For some reason the same kit costs $240 in the US.

The kit scores 3.9 from 846 Tiger Direct customers.

If the SSD drive doesn’t appeal to you, a standard HDD kit comes in at under $230. (in Canada)

This is a respectable Gigabyte motherboard and 500 GB hard drive.

Again the Windows 8 Consumer Preview operating system is fast and free.

Monitor, mouse and keyboard extra. It’s always handy to keep those peripherals from older computers. They come in handy for kit building or replacements.
