Famed singer songwriter is offering his fans free guitar lessons – how cool is that?

James Taylor is offering to teach the world how to play his unique finger picking guitar style. Free. On YouTube.

The project started in October and he just posted Lesson 3 called Second Wheel.

In his large barn-like studio, Taylor has a video and audio recording setup that records the lessons. Along with his clear explanation of what he is doing, the camera goes inside the guitar sound hole to show the finger picking. Another camera mounted on the guitar shows his left hand on the fret board.

The quality of the lessons is beyond anything I have paid for or seen previously. He does the lesson in regular time and half time to help the student.

James Taylor is famous for his guitar playing and introspective and personal songs. He doesn’t have to spend the time passing on his art and heritage. I’m amazed at his generosity.

While he may not have been a Top 10 star for decades, he has performed and toured regularly. His fan base is enormous. You have to admire an artist he is willing to give back to the public.

At the end of this lesson he incorporates the previous lesson Little Wheel to show how they work together.
