The CD that brought Bob Dylan back from the wasteland with producer Daniel Lanois
Oh Mercy, one of the best Dylan CDs of all time is being re-issued in vinyl according to Ultimate Classic RockBy the mid-80’s Dylan was drifting in his post-Christian period. At one point he offered to join the Grateful Dead. They declined.
At the suggestion of Bono from U2, he hooked up with Hamilton, Ontario native Daniel Lanois, the producer of Joshua Tree and other U2 albums.
Dylan and Lanois argued, fought and somehow made one of the greatest Dylan albums with classic songs like Political World, Man in the Long Black Coat, Most of the Time and Dignity.
Some call it swamp music and that’s probably a good word for the swirl of sounds. However, the arrangements are very simple when you break them down. The leads are tasty and the rhythm section simple but powerful.
Oh Mercy has had a re-mastering and an SACD release. The vinyl release will be another item for collectors.
