Charlottetown Prince Edward Island streets were flooded this afternoon and early evening
More than 100 mm poured down. Heavy rain started at 2 pm. (updated – the official rainfall was 94.8 mm)
Summerside residents also reported up to 50 mm of rain fell over suppertime.
Streets were flooded all over the City as storm sewers could not keep up with the deluge.
At supper time children were playing in knee deep water at Spring Street and Villa. Several trucks made their way through what could only be called a pond.
The intersection was full of water. It hadn’t been flooded that much in over ten years residents recalled.
A resident living two houses from the corner on Spring Street reported water in her basement. The sump pump wasn’t keeping up with the flow.
A few minutes later the rain started again. Villa Avenue was flooded for half a block. Charlottetown works department employees were surveying the scene.
At Brighton Road and Government Drive, known as government pond, water was bubbling up from the drain. The whole area was flooded. Back yards in the area were full of water.
