Maybe Beck will learn that disability is part of life and not something worthy of his right wing scorn

Glenn Beck, the Fox commentator, has admitted through tears that he is going blind. He has been diagnosed with macular dystrophy and may be blind within a year.

In the past Beck has been derisively dismissive of those with disabilities and government efforts to help them. Beck is an on-air supporter of the Tea-Party which openly questions the Americans with Disabilities Act as unfair to business.

He made a tasteless blind joke in 2006

“I work at Radio City in midtown Manhattan, and up by the doors, you know, like where the — you know — the office kitchen is, in Braille, on the wall, it says ‘kitchen.’ You’d have to — a blind person would have to be feeling all of the walls to find “kitchen.” Just to piss them off, I’m going to put in Braille on the coffee pot — I’m going to put, ‘Pot is hot.’ Ow!”

“Susan Sontag said we all carry two passports: one for the land of the well, one for the land of the ill,” Mia Farrow noted. “Any minute, the passport for the land of the well can be revoked, and you’re in another land entirely.” Passport to Land of the Well is Revoked
