Ain’t love grand except when it grounds 100 flights
He was just a star-crossed lover who crossed the line, the security line that is and shut down Newark Airport last week for hours.
Thousands of passengers had to re-enter security. Hundreds of flights were delayed because Haisong Jiang, 28, a graduate student wanted one last kiss before his girlfriend went back to LA after their holiday.
What could be more trivial and yet cause so much havoc?
Apparently, the guy and his girlfriend jumped the security cordon at Newark Airport because he is “such a romantic.” We are all supposed to get warm and fuzzy about the guy because he is young and in love.
At least he wasn’t a terrorist everyone breathes in relief. He’s just an impulsive lover who doesn’t like to wait. This is the stuff of romance novels and sappy love songs but doesn’t cut it in airports where nut-balls wear toxic underwear and shoes with the smell of cordite instead of athletes feet.
The press want to give the guy a free ride. “He loves his girlfriend,” Huang said of Jiang, who has not commented publicly since he was arrested Friday night at his home. “He just went to say goodbye to her.” writes the Washington Post
“He did it for love,” says the NY Daily News “The Chinese graduate student who snuck through a Newark Airport checkpoint to steal a kiss from his girlfriend – sparking a massive security scare – was described Saturday as a hopeless romantic.”
Timing is everything in life and love and the guy is old enough to know that.
NJ Senator Lautenberg wants more than a “slap on the wrist.” “New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D), who was briefed on the arrest, said authorities found Jiang with “sheer, hard police work” but expressed anger that the man faces a charge he described as a “slap on the wrist.” Lautenberg also vowed to push for harsher penalties for such offenses.” NY Daily News
If all the guy gets is a $500 fine, the law “as a ass”. Some woman got a million dollar fine for copying 17 songs over the internet. She should have said they were love songs.
