Love Has No Pride by Linda Ronstadt

Back in 1973, Linda Ronstadt was breaking hearts with her soulful southern California rock.

Millions of guys had and still have a crush on her. She was described once as the girl guys want to take home.

Linda Ronstadt is credited with creating country rock with her fusion of folk and rock music. She has always been an exquisite interpreter of other people’s songs and one of the most successful female rock artists of all time.

This TV performance starts with Andrew Gold who arranged and performed the exquisite Heart Like a Wheel album in 1974.

It is “from the TV special “A Concert Behind Prison Walls” hosted by Johnny Cash, taped in 1976 in the Tennessee State Prison, and first broadcast in 1977. Linda’s backup band consists of Andrew Gold, Kenny Edwards, and Dan Dugmore.” YouTube

Ronstadt originally released the song on  the album Don’t Cry Now.

“Love Has No Pride” was written by Eric Kaz and Libby Titus.

While never too popular as a recording artist, Eric Kaz wrote songs made popular by Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, Sarah Brightman and Alison Krauss.

Both “Heart Like A Wheel” and “Don’t Cry Now” include a who’s who of the California rock scene – Eagles alumni Grenn Frey and Don Henley, J.D. Souther, Jackson Browne, Randy Newman, and Peter Asher.

Heart Like a Wheel is undoubtedly the better of the two albums and shows Ronstadt at her peak, backed by the best people in the business.

“Heart Like a Wheel” is literally a perfect production by Peter Asher and the best album Ronstadt ever released. It’s never been out of production since release. In 2009 it got a gold HD audio re-release which I bought. In 2012 a new vinyl edition was released.

“Love Has No Pride” was also a hit for Bonnie Raitt twice in her career.

  1. Extraordinary. This Linda’s finest song and shows what a fantastic vocalist she was in those days.I must go out and find a copy of this CD to replace the album that I must have lost near 30 years ago.

  2. Ken R Greenwood

Desperado from this same “Concert” was equal or better.

    So true!!

Saw her twice: With Arlo Guthrie in ~1971 and with the Eagles in ~1976 (+ Logins and Messina) at Oakland Coliseum Day on the Green.
