Charlie Sheen was arrested over the holidays by Aspen Police for allegedly attacking his wife with a knife and threatening her life. She claims he held her on the bed with a knife at her throat and said “If you tell anybody, I’ll kill you.”

Brooke Mueller, Sheen’s wife, said he attacked her after she said she would divorce him and take the children. Sheen and Mueller have twin boys born March 2009.

Sheen went on to threaten Mueller that he had “friends” who could finish her off. “I have ex-police I can hire who know how to get the job done, and they won’t leave any trace.”

With Sheen’s past record of violence, one has to wonder at why Mueller agreed to marry Sheen in the first place. Sheen shot his girlfriend Kelly Preston in the arm in 1990. The first marriage to Donna Peele ended in divorce after one year in 1996. He has been arrested numerous times for drug and cocaine possession and overdosed in 1998. His second marriage to Denise Richards produced two children and a 2006 divorce with charges of violence and abuse fueled by drugs and alcohol.

According to some sources, Mueller has recanted her story of Christmas day abuse saying she was drunk herself. Merry Christmas, eh? Just what are the rich folks up to on the Holidays?

The probably source or Sheen’s rage would be his liability for spousal and child support plus another division of his property under California divorce law. Even the very rich find it hard to be divorced three times when they have expensive designer drug habits to support.

She told an officer she got him off her by saying, “You’re right, you’re right, you’re right. I’m sorry. I love you.”

When police arrived at the rented $7.5 million home on West Hallam street, she was sobbing uncontrollably in the kitchen and he was in a bedroom upstairs.

Sheen was described by police as cooperative and told officers that he had not threatened his wife.

He said they yelled each other and slapped each other on the arms, and he snapped two pairs of her eyeglasses in front of her.

“He demontrated this by making breaking gestures with his hands,” according to the police report.

When asked if he had a knife, Sheen retrieved one from his travel bag. The 4-inch blade was in the open position.

In a 9-1-1 tape released earlier today, Mueller told a dispatcher that Sheen had threatened her with a switchblade-type knife and still had the knife.

She can be heard saying, “My husband had me with a knife. I’m scared for my life and he threatened me.”

She was released from the Pitkin County Jail after 10 hours Friday night. He posted an $8,500 bond and has a court order to stay away from his wife, a standard requirement in domestic violence arrests in Colorado.

The 44-year-old star of of the CBS show “Two and Half Men” faces charges of felony second-degree assault, felony menacing and a misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief.

Richard Cummins, Sheen’s Aspen lawyer, said Monday he would have “no comment.” On Friday he said evidence would show no crime had been committed.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Arnold Mordkin said Monday the menacing charge is the most serious, usually carrying a sentence of two to eight years in prison and a fine of $2,000 to $500,000.

Sheen’s next court appearance is Feb. 8. Mordkin said no decision on whether to prosecute Sheen is expected until shortly before that.

Sheen married 29-year-old real estate investor and “Strictly Sexual” actress last year. She gave birth to twins, Max and Bob, in March.

Sheen’s publicist, Stan Rosenfield, released a statement Friday: “It would benefit everyone not to jump to any conclusion.”
