MLA Mike Currie said the Province in conflict with Axion Group from New Brunswick
Axion Group was hired to study the Province’s computer system.
The cost was more than $900 a day which Treasurer Wes Sheridan didn’t seem clear about, despite having signed the contract for his own department.
Then, claims Currie, the consultant on th project quit and got hired by the Province to implement the plan.
Sheridan claimed there was no one else in the Maritimes who could upgrade the governments computer; however, he did not confirm the job was advertised.
Currie was skeptical that no one else but the consultant was qualified to assist the province.
This is a common practice among consultants to use a consulting study as a foot in the door to a longer term engagement.
In the new capital budget Sheridan has allocated $14 million dollars to the new computer system recommended by Axion and now to be installed by them. Good work if you can get it.
That does not include another $6 million on the never-ending-patient-information system.
