The New York Yankees always mean more than the team. They are my dad’s team
The Yankee’s World Series win would have been special to my dad but he’s been gone for eleven years now. I knew this would happen, that the win would bring up old memories.

Dad was a big sports nut, big baseball fan and a Yankee. He followed all the games. I can remember watching the World Series with him on black and white TV in the 1950’s. They had day games then so it meant the afternoon off school.
Dad said in the 1930’s the newspaper would run the scores on a big sign outside the paper in Halifax. The games were on the radio and people kept their ears to the set.
I once asked him why we were not Boston fans like almost everyone else in Halifax.
He picked the Yankees to be different. There you have it: the choice of ball team based on pugnacious personality.
I think he picked the Montreal Canadians the same way.
Funny, when he retired in Montreal he switched to the Expos. I still have the un-worn jersey I bought on our last game together in the Big-O.
Lots of things hold memories but for my dad it’s always Yankees, Canadians, big-band jazz and journalism.
Today is a good day to remember.

Ahh the NY Yankees, love them or hate them, that team is the team to beat. We do miss Joe Torre however. Thank you for Derek Jeter. Not a big Arod supporter however
