Despite repeated requests from Opposition Leader Olive Crane, Health Minister Doug Currie refused to agree to provide $30,000 in core funding for the Alzheimer Society of PEI.
Crane highlighted the growing issue of Alzheimer’s as a serious issue for Islanders and their lack of any core funding from the province.
Crane said the respite program is at risk of failure if the government does not help.
Neither the Health Minister nor the Treasurer would accept their request for funding. They countered that many non-government organizations are asking for help. The government is limited in resources, they said.
Crane countered that if the province can afford to spend $160,000 for two wine specialists, surely it can afford to help families with Alzheimer’s.
