Canadian unemployment edges up to 8.7%

US unemployment rose to 9.7% in August, according to MSNBC, the highest rate since 1983. 216,000 jobs were lost in August.
Including those who have settled for part-time or given up, the actual unemployment or under-employment rate is said to be 16.8%.
In Canada the economy created 27,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate still rose to 8.7% since it indicated more people were trying to re-enter the workforce. That would be the highest rate since 1998 in Canada, an 11 year high.
The faltering economic recovery is not creating jobs fast enough to absorb the tens of millions of Canadians and Americans who lost their jobs in the recession.
