Users are left to fend for themselves

Microsoft is cutting Money lose on June 30, 2009. The product will not be supported and the links to financial institutions will end. Money is one of 13 software programs Microsoft has discontinued in the last few months. Microsoft is looking to cut losing product lines during the recession when sales drop which is prudent.
If you’ve been using Money for years like I have, that’s a disappointment. But it has been time to move on from Money for years. MS Money became less and less important in the personal finance game as Intuit’s Quicken dominated the market.
For loyal Money users, Quicken is the most logical upgrade. While some have claimed Quicken is offering discounts, we could not find any either at retailers or on line.
Money has an export tool to move data to the Quicken format. Quicken has tools to migrate data from Money as well.
Like all migrations, expect some pain as the two systems have different feature and data sets. Something will get lost in the translation.
Failing an easy migration, users can simply start fresh by entering opening balances in Quicken. It is probably the best and quickest route to go.
Other programs that Microsoft have canceled include Encarta (lost to Wikipedia), Office Accounting, Dynamics Entrepreneur, Office Live, One Care. The complete list is published here.

Ugly American
That’s how proprietary software works. You pay and pay and pay and then they just pocket your money and walk away leaving you stuck.
Free Software & Open Source avoids these problems.
