Beyonce is resplendent singing Ave Maria, Award and Tribute fails to spark

The stars and family came out for the hastily converted BET 2009-Awards-now-Michael Jackson Tribute last night but the show was long on effort and low on emotional spark. There was more enjoyment watching the old Michael Jackson videos except one awesome song by Beyonce that was both visually and musically worth the ticket.
Beyonce Ave Maria (the clip is HD, it may take a few seconds to cache on your computer) OK so the outfit was a cross between Madonna and Blaze Starr.
Updated – Viacom forced YouTube to issue take downs of all the recordings of Beyonce at the BET 2009, all 1,700 of them. We substituted an audience fan video which has her singing in slightly better voice.
Joe Jackson, Michael’s father, said on the red carpet the family had questions about the mysterious death of their son.
It was a night to watch the stars on stage and the stars in the audience but there was little magic in the performances. Typical would be the really bad version of Beat It by Jamie Fox. He’s a great entertainer but probably couldn’t hold a candle when he was younger to Jackson who was a virtuoso dancer and singer. Fox just ain’t got the moves or the grooves.
With all the hype and money opportunities surround the sudden death of Michael Jackson, we can expect more duds like the BET Award Show. Let’s hope Quincy Jones gets involved in one and has the interest, chops and energy to make it click. No one else can probably produce a Michael Jackson tribute with more authenticity.
Michael’s death has stopped the Internet in its tracks, created an instant number one CD in the UK of his hits and overloaded iTunes as the number one download on Sunday. I still have my original Thriller album and aren’t I glad.
