(NECN) – A memorial service was held Saturday for New Hampshire’s David Robar, a well known advocate for people with disabilities.
David died last week of pneumonia.
He was a former competitive athlete who he spent most of his adult life in a wheelchair after a terrible motor cycle accident left him paralyzed. But David was never one to feel sorry for himself — instead he became an agent for change.
NECN profiled Robar a number of years ago. You will find his story in the video player above, a story that originally ran on our air in March 2001.
In his career as a disability advocate, Robar succeeded in helping get the Work Incentive Act passed, so that people with disabilities could purchase medicaid insurance.
At his memorial service in New London, New Hampshire, he was remembered as a skilled advocate and a man who inspired others with his positive outlook and sense of humor.
David Robar was 44 years old.
