I heard Tim Hardin sing this at the New Penelope in Montreal 1967. Hardin is Mr “If I Were a Carpenter.” Hardin had a sweet soul that produced tender music.
No one does this better than Rod Stewart, the consummate entertainer. Listen to the audience: they love him. If you’re an entertainer, this is the holy grail of audience rapture.
