When was the last time Microsoft gave you something for free? Can’t remember well wait until tomorrow.
Microsoft is allowing unlimited free downloads of Windows 7 release code as of May 5, 2009 until sometime in July.
Windows 7 RC is strong enough to use everyday. Older computers may have driver problems but what does it hurt to try? If it doesn’t work, you can roll it back.
CaveatWindows 7 RC does not uninstall
If you are using Vista it’s a no-brainer. The investment in 3-6 hours for your computer to virtually upgrade itself plus some time learning the new features will pay off. I’ve found Windows 7 slightly faster and easier to get things done.
Here’s the site for the free download tomorrow. Welcome to Windows 7
Expect heavy traffic. Waiting a week might be a good idea. But then I couldn’t wait.
The free code will turn off in June 2010 so by then you will have to pay for an upgrade if you want to keep it. The final code will ship sometime in the early fall according to all the rumours.
