Darin White back at PEI Council of the Arts, why?

There’s a move backward in the minds of many people in the PEI Arts community

Editor – we’re not sure who thinks White is an asset. We haven’t met them yet.

April 6, 2009 – The Board of Directors of the Prince Edward Island Council of the Arts informed its membership today that, effective immediately, Mr. Darrin White has been re-instated as the Council’s Executive Director. Mr. White approached the Board with his request in early March when, for personal reasons, he decided not to re-locate off-Island.

“We are extremely pleased to accept Mr. White’s application for re-instatement,” said the Board’s Chair Dr. Greg Doran. “Mr. White has provided excellent service to the Council and its membership over the past five years, and we look forward to his continued, and capable, service to the arts community on Prince Edward Island.”

Mr. White had originally submitted his resignation in early 2009 for personal reasons. The Board then began a competition to replace its outgoing Executive Director. Before the deadline for applications closed, Mr. White informed the Board that his personal circumstances had changed and that he would be pleased to continue his service to the Council. The Board accepted his request unanimously, and without hesitation.

“It can be difficult to find the right person to fill the position of Executive Director for this type of organization,” said Dr. Doran. “Therefore, when Mr. White came forward with his request for re-instatement, it was an easy decision to make. It meant that the Council was able to keep an Executive Director with all the experience, background, and qualifications that it needs.”

Further questions about Mr. White’s re-instatement can be forwarded to Dr. Greg Doran at chair@peica.ca.
