DSP Reform # 12 – return phone calls

Ed: we are collecting things about the DSP that need reform. They cost very little but they are a source of grief for those living with disabilities.

Reform # 12 – return phone calls

If you have a disability and call the DSP office it would be nice to have someone take your phone call or return it. From the beginning the culture at the DSP has been to use voice mail for screening.

Everyone knows it. The 1,000 clients know it. Return phone calls usually take 2 days. Sometimes the DSP person simply will not return the call.

People living with disabilities usually call when they need help. It would be a kindness to take the call then or return it promptly.

This reform costs no money. It only takes the milk of human kindness and consideration. Since the DSP is supposed to serve clients, the staff should be given time twice a day to make sure they are dealing with client issues, not in meetings.
