James Brown was buried today.
I saw him for the first time back to 1964.
A girl I was chasing was hot on James Brown. Patsy Skerrett talked about James Brown all the time.
Coming up to speed on James Brown was Job One despite being a confirmed folkie back then.
The Casino Theatre in Halifax was playing a film called “The T.A.M.I. Show” and James Brown was the star attraction.
His performance knocked me out. He had so much energy and rhythm. He was awesome. He was The Man. The rest of the cast was forgettable.
All I can remember is James Brown. Patsy loved “Please Please Please” and I was gone on “Outta Sight”.
Looking at those two songs today I can see I didn’t have a clue what was going on. She was way ahead of me and I was too dumb to know it.
Patsy moved on and I was left with a lifetime interest in James Brown and soul music.
Thank you girl.
