It’s just another improvement in a long line of computing devices. Let’s face it we, as in the techno-weenie part of the population, crave gadgets. Apple will sell out the initial batch if tablet computers based on style, marketing savvy and dedicated Mac-head fan base. After that, the market may not rush to Apple’s door.

It will appear that Apple now owns the tablet market but in reality the biggest producer of tablet computers will be someone like Acer or HP. It’s the same as the iPhone: we assume Apple has the lion’s share of the market because that’s all the press write about. Nokia, with more than 40% market share, is the largest maker of 3G and legacy cell phones. Samsung is next. Apple is growing quickly and someday may get to 8% of the market, someday.

Netbooks surged past notebooks in sales this year capturing the lion’s share of first quarter purchases but buyers are experiencing buyer’s remorse. With the price of Vista notebooks getting lower each month, on the price difference alone it is hard to justify a netbook purchase.

Microsoft has renamed ‘”netbook” and it is a lot simpler and easier to remember – “low-cost small notebook PC”.

That is what “Microsoft OEM division corporate vice president Steve Guggenheimer during a speech Tuesday at the Computex trade show in Taiwan” called them. (Compterworld)

It’s elegant. It has panache and pith all at once. What can we say to the giant who wants to own and name the everything?

Maybe your best ideas are behind you? As in Windows, Word, and Excel. The Natal name for the awesome XBox controller seems like a toss off.

Don’t forget to take the “thing that’s made of plastic and holds ice and food keeping them cool for later when you’re having a picnic on the beach or park”. Oh yeah, the cooler.
