Chuck Berry is the King of Rock and Roll Music

Chuck Berry’s Rock and Roll Music with Etta James, Eric Clapton and Keith Richards, Robert Cray is the epitome of rock and roll

“If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it ‘Chuck Berry’.” said John Lennon about his hero Chuck Berry.

Chuck Berry is the King of Rock and Roll and he was also a character. He toured with just his guitar and no band. Everybody can play Chuck Berry standards and a local pickup band is cheaper than a touring troupe. Continue reading

Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert

If there is one Bob Dylan concert to have on video, it’s the 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration from 1992.

I’ll try to thread my way through the various versions available today.

Ironically Bob Dylan only sings on 5 of the 30 plus songs but it’s a who’s who of rock and roll and country singing Bob Dylan. Continue reading

(Updated to fix H.264 videos and some links)

The documentary “Chuck Berry Hail Hail Rock and Roll” comes as Chuck Berry – Hail! Hail! Rock N’ Roll 2 disk DVD 4 DVD Chuck Berry Hail Hail Rock and Roll part 2 photo and the 4 DVD collectors edition.

The jam sessions on disk 2 are both entertaining and give you a glimpse into the musical genius of Chuck Berry. The making of video “The Reluctant Star” reveals more of Berry as a person and artist.

It also unwittingly pulls back the veil to show the condescension and racial bigotry of the producers and to a lesser extent the director. The collection is worth owning if you like blues and Chuck Berry.  Continue reading

Chuck Berry Hail Hail Rock and Roll, Part 1

Ultimate Collectors Edition of Hail Hail Rock and Roll is even better than the theatrical release

Hail Hail Rock and Roll web Chuck Berry Hail Hail Rock and Roll, Part 1 photo John Lennon said that if rock and roll had another name it would be called Chuck Berry.

I had seen the movie Hail Hail Rock and Roll about Berry’s life on VHS.

I wasn’t prepared for the power of the release as a 4 DVD special set.

Taylor Hackford’s Chuck Berry – Hail! Hail! Rock N’ Roll (4 Disc) is an excellent combination of Chuck Berry music, biography and rock and roll musicology.

Born in 1926, Berry was one of the Rock and Roll pioneers who created the amalgam of jazz, blues and popular music that became Rock and Roll.   At 83 years old he is still performing live.    Continue reading
