NJN on your iPhone

The results are surprisingly good

NJN Network on iPhone

Please give NJN Mobile a try and tell us what is working for you and what is not.  There is nothing special you need to do – just bookmark our site in your mobile browser and check it out.

When I first got an iPhone using it for web access was horribly slow. Pages were taking 1-2 minutes to appear. Moving to the next page was painful.

As the demand for smart phone access has increased, new software has improved smart phone access.

Two weeks ago we installed a widget that translates web pages into smart phone pages. Since then we’ve tweaked the software and think it’s working very well.

On 3G service, our main page loads in 6-10 seconds which isn’t that much slower than on a computer. Instead of a picture thumbnail, we show the date and headline.  The front page loads faster and you can see the newest stories for the day.  Update – with faster speeds using thumbnails is feasible.

The pages are sized to fit the iPhone and the text is readable.

YouTube videos play but Flash videos don’t. That’s an Apple limitation. Video on smart phone is painfully slow. You are at the mercy of bad connections and too much data.

Benchmarking NJN Network against other news sites, CBC takes about 15-30 seconds from the front page and then 10-20 seconds for the next pages.

IOC blocks news about luge death in David and Goliath battle

IOC Attempts To Pull A God Or At Least The Pope on Earth

IOC attempt to censor news coverage of luge accident death

PR Log – The IOC has sent us a legal take down notice to remove the coverage of the luge death at the Vancouver Olympics.

This is a blatant attempt to stifle freedom of the press by way of copyright law. The IOC demand and threat is outside the copyright protection granted them and anyone under law. Of course legalities have never stopped tyrants who seek absolute power.

Last week the story on the take downs of the luge videos piqued our interest. Copyright lawyer and educator Michael Geist has Twitted the story and it was also covered on Tech Dirt. Olympics Using Bogus Copyright Claims To Take Down All Videos Of Fatal Luge Crash

Dave Letterman jokes about sex with his employees

Since when did the boss having sex with his staff pass the smell test on sexual harassment

Everyone knows that Dave Letterman had sex with several female members of his staff. Letterman revealed it on prime time TV when a co-worker tried to extort money from him. The extortion story is an attempt to build sympathy for Letterman.

The Globe and Mail published a story entitled Top 10 Reasons why David Letterman will Survive his Sex Scandal . The top reason given by the Globe is the shocking statement

“1 Come to think of it, what exactly did he do wrong?

“Mr. Letterman’s admitted to having an affair with co-workers, and apparently before his marriage to long-time girlfriend Regina Lasko last March. “If it was a consensual relationship, he’s not in trouble for sexual harassment,” said lawyer Deborah Katz on CNN yesterday. “Poor judgment, undoubtedly, but not legal trouble.” Globe and Mail

Taliban positioned to take over nuclear weapons

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqgEn42wdDM

By Stephen Pate, NJN Network, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, April 24, 2009 with CBS clips

The Taliban are within 60 miles of Islamabad the capital of Pakistan. They are imposing Sharia law, a human rights versus religion issue. The bigger story is the inability of the Pakistan government to stop the Taliban. Sixty miles is one campaign from control of Pakistan’s military and a nuclear arsenal. No other scenario could spell as much danger for the United States and the Western World. The Taliban and their allies al-Qaida are dedicated to the destruction of Western culture.
