Steve Jobs claims # 1 in the games market with iPod Touch

Yesterday Apple CEO Steve Jobs did a live announcement of Apple’s new or improved products for the fall. Some of his claims were so preposterous it’s hard to take him with more than a grain of salt.

The show had plenty of wow’s, ooh’s and aah’s for Apple fanboys but nothing as spectacular as a new product. Most of the announcements, like the iPod Touch upgrade, had been rumored for weeks.

Apple does a good job of keeping their product line fresh and giving their competitors a target to hit.

Microsoft announces 60 games will launch with Windows Phone 7 in October

iPhone and Android fanboys and their pundits who have counted Microsoft out of the smartphone explosion may have to eat their predictions. Microsoft has announced it will ship 60 titles of the popular Xbox LIVE when the Windows Phone 7 is released in October.

Titles like “Castlevania, Halo: Waypoint, Star Wars, Crackdown, and Guitar Hero, and the ultra-cute ilomilo” (Engadget) will ship with the Windows Phone 7. Microsoft says new games will be shipping every week after that.  Continue reading

The Microsoft Kinect XBox system (formerly Natal) is demonstrating a lifelike boy who can interact on an almost human level. Milo is software that uses the Kinect system. The Kinect system is expected to be released in November 2010. It will be the hottest game this Christmas.

There big players in the games market and Microsoft’s XBox 360 is one of them. Announced product sales of $20 billion world wide and growing. Steve Ballmer in his CES 2010 keynote address on Wednesday evening stressed the spring release of Games Room, a return to arcade style games. It will remind the young at heart of the 70s and 80s when games were played in arcades.

I am a little shocked that Lama in line to replace the Dalai Lama likes video games but he is young. I used to play video games and sometimes wondered if the violence was bad.

Apparently not according to one of the leaders of a religion that promotes meditation and passive behavior.

In his book Whole New Mind author Daniel Pink claimed surveys show people under 30 know all the video games but don’t remember one Shakespearean play. We might bemoan the loss of 500 years of literature but that isn’t happening. Continue reading
