I knew something magical was happening last night. When I was going to sleep, the almost full moon was streaming light through the blinds.

I opened them up and fell asleep bathed in the moonlight. When I awoke at 2:30 AM the night was alive with moonlight.  Continue reading

Cory Booker on The Ellen ShowEveryone was thrilled by the exploits of Newark Mayor Cory Booker when he saved his neighbor from a burning building.

Well perhaps his Republican opponents were less than enthused by the Super Hero Mayor.

Ellen did a video interview with Mayor Booker, posted it on her website and on YouTube then pulled it.  Continue reading

Mumbai The Plot Unfolds Lashkar Strikes and Investigators Scramble

Part Two of in-depth report on the attack on Mumbai, India

Mumbai attack on Taj Mahal Hotel image, Israpundit

by Sebastian Rotella, ProPublica

This is the second part of ProPublica’s investigation into the plot behind the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Read the first part . Both were co-published with the Washington Post.

David Coleman Headley seemed like a gregarious, high-rolling American businessman when he set up shop in Mumbai in September 2006.

He opened the office of an immigration consulting firm. He partied at swank locales such as the ornate Taj Mahal Hotel, a 1903 landmark favored by Westerners and the Indian elite. He joined an upscale gym, where he befriended a Bollywood actor. He roamed the booming, squalid city taking photos and shooting video.

But it was all a front. The tall, fast-talking Pakistani American with the slicked-back hair was a fierce extremist, a former drug dealer, a onetime Drug Enforcement Administration informant who became a double agent. He had spent three years refining his clandestine skills in the terrorist training camps of the Lashkar-i-Taiba militant group. As Headley confessed in a guilty plea in U.S. federal court this year, he was in Mumbai to begin undercover reconnaissance for a sophisticated attack that would take two years to plan.  Continue reading

Portrait of death threat graffiti artist

And why I never adopted a life of crime

CCTV of Colonel Gray graffiti artist making death threats

The Charlottetown Police have released to CBC and other media the CCTV video of the male who left the death threat graffiti on Colonel Gray High School last week. See Waiting for Columbine on PEI

It’s pretty hard to tell what he looks like, assuming it’s even a guy but you can more or less tell by the gait. Not being sexist but women general have a different “walk” than men.

The closed circuit TV camera installed by the school is useless unless the perpetrator takes off their hoodie and stares directly at the camera while standing nearby.

Have a look and if you know the person, call the Charlottetown Police with your tip.

Which reminds me why I never embarked on a life of crime. Continue reading

Waiting for Columbine on PEI

Despite death threats officials keep schools open but close next day for scheduled professional development day

Death threats painted on school walls at Colonel Gray High (photo CBC)

Four death threats were painted on the brick exterior of Colonel Gray High School Thursday September 30th, 2010 in Charlottetown PEI.

“A kid will die if there is school today” said one. “Which kid will die?” said another. Others targeted the police.

Despite all of the past violence in high schools in Canada and the United States, local school officials thought the threat wasn’t enough to close the schools.

Parents and students could chose for themselves if they wanted to go home or stay.  Many students didn’t hear about the threats until mid or late morning.

La-de-da in the PEI Eastern School District.  Call in the police. Check the video tapes.

An ambulance attendant loads a patient at a playing field adjacent to Clarence Sansom Junior High, on 24th Avenue N.E. in the community of Pineridge. A girl as young as 12 was attacked, and possibly raped, in the northeast schoolyard just before the supper hour Monday as a group of youths looked on and took photos. It was a pretty ghastly story in the Ottawa Citizen. Some teenage boys in Calgary allegedly raped a 12 year old girl in the school yard while other children looked on and took photographs with their cellphones.

Police have detained one boy who appeared to be the perpetrator and seized cell phones from others. They may contain videos or pictures which could be evidence.

Alcohol was involved.  A mother in a nearby home witnessed the whole incident unsure what was happening and then horrified when she realized the young girl was being sexually attacked.

The Ottawa Citizen was covering the story from the Calgary Herald. In an unprecedented move for a newspaper, the Citizen printed the link back to other paper.

Picture caption is exactly as shown in the Ottawa Citizen
