Dubbed the “working man’s guitar” when it was released in 1942 to sell at $45, no other guitar except the Martin D-28 defines what a guitar should be.

The J-45 and D-18 are the most copied styles and sounds in guitars. Continue reading

Review Gibson J-45 Custom

Gibson revisits the classic American dreadnought with rosewood sides and back and custom trim

Gibson J-45 Custom with fancy headstock

The classic Gibson J-45 guitar is available in several custom variations and the J-45 Custom adds the punch of rosewood and fancy trim.

There are not many of these guitars being made and they are hard to find.

What’s new? Apart from the high-end trim, rosewood sides and back make a subtle change in the J-45 Custom, away from the boomy mids of mahogany to a punchier guitar with slightly more emphasis on highs and mids.  Continue reading

Ramirez 125 Anos classical guitar

I am a big fan of the Ramirez R4 guitar and actually prefer it to the Ramirez 1a for studio work.

I can’t believe I found 3 new guitars of the Ramirez 125 Anos series for sale.

The Ramirez 125 Anos guitar is a special model celebrating 125 years of building the world’s best classical guitars. The 125 Anos shares many features with the R and E series guitars, at a lower price.

“Based on the template of the E line designed by Jose Ramirez III, Amalia Ramirez has created this new model as a Limited Edition which will be built during the five years from 2007-2012, celebrating the 125th Anniversary of the Ramirez workshop!” 12th Fret  Continue reading

TC Electronic Ditto Looper, only two buttons

TC Electronic Helicon just released a looper in Europe that looks like a winner, the Ditto Looper.

It’s so simple you get 5 minutes of guitar looping with just two switches.

The first time I saw someone use a guitar looper he was toe-flipping switches on a multi-pedal board from Roland.

The thought of remembering the step sequence on stage was daunting. There is enough to worry about when playing guitar.  Continue reading
