Old Crow Medicine Show 3-song EP

Hot in the middle of their US / Canadian tour, Old Crow Medicine Show have released a 3 song EP for their fans.

The old-new country band that inspired Mumford and Sons passed through Atlantic Canada recently and will be back in Canada in August.

Old Crow Medicine Show got a recent boost, after almost disappearing from road fatigue, in the Mumford and Sons Big Easy Express Blu-ray movie. Darius Rucker also made a comeback hit of their venerable favourite “Wagon Wheel”.

The band also released a new CD last summer Old Crow Medicine Show – Carry Me Back which had lots of appeal and stays in my rotation.

Old Crow Medicine Show are a string band stuck between the genre’s of folk, new folk, country, new country or whatever people call it. They are the band that Mumford and Sons modeled themselves. Timing is everything and Mumford and Sons are the current hit artists which does not detract from the great music coming from Old Crow Medicine Show.

“On the heel’s of Darius Rucker’s success with ‘Wagon Wheel,’ we thought maybe there’s a chance country radio will finally spin Old Crow, so the EP really started as a promo thing,” said singer-fiddler Ketch Secor. “But we knew our fans would love the bonus songs, too, so we put together a sharp package and put it out for all – kind of a thank you to our fans for all the love and support on the last tour. “

The three song EP features a cover of the Alabama classic “Dixieland Delight.” Back in 2008, Secor talked with American Songwriter about his fondness for the country super-group.

“A lot of people would think it’s a joke to love Alabama, but I don’t,” Secor said. “They wrote songs that made a lasting impression on the Southland. If that’s all my music could do, I’d be proud to have done it. They may have made some production choices that make them sound dated, but they wrote hit after hit after hit that spoke to people in the South.”
