Friday night on Victoria Row, food drink friends and jazz

The summer week came in with the drizzle on Monday and ended the week with a gloriously warm evening on Victoria Row.

It was family night with Natalie (sitting with us for the first time in years), Hannah (“either the beach or The Row”), Edith and Kerrie and her 15 month old god-daughter. Friends stopped to chat or just wave for hours as we parked outside the Globe.

The jazz flowed free along with the good food and drinks. I captured Blue Trane by John Coltrane played well by the Ron Petrides Trio. Ron Petrides is a jazz guitar virtuoso from the Bronx as he likes to point out. Backing him were Dr. Chris Budhan, who is the Always on Stage Jazz Festival organizer, and Matt MacEachern from Cornwall.

Ron has a blisteringly fast left hand. This song catches him in the Blue Trane mood. So nice.

The video was shot on the Flip UltraHD and uploaded without any editing. The 720P video looks better before YouTube compression. The sound is excellent with good bass, mids and amazing sizzle on the cymbals. I edited the same clip and will try to post the second version as well. (In retrospect the highs are accentuated too much and had to be tamed.)

The price just dropped $30 so the little beauties are now $199 Canadian at Amazon.ca.

Later on the omnipresent Myrtle Jenkins Smith passed by with her enforcer husband. He seemed calmer than at the McCartney concert. McCartney concert crowd is awesome except for Myrtle Jenkins Smith. That’s nice.

Summer nights are all too soon over, like summer. The song is ended but the memory lingers on.

Wow! You video record as well as you write! And spell.
    “Vurtuoso”?
You need another “editor” at your “network”.
