Great Lakes nominated as Most Canadian Song

CBC Radio 3 Awards voting is open until November 27, 2011

The CBC Bucky Awards is listener driven so click and vote.

Harlan Pepper Great Lakes

The nomination is high praise for Harlan Pepper who were formed in 2010. They have found an audience with their blend of rock and Appalachian Folk Music. They remind me of a young Mumford and Sons.

Great Lakes – CD version which benefits from better audio recording than the video.

“The bottom 2 nominees in each category will be eliminated on Friday, November 18th. Voting will continue until midnight on Sunday, November 27th.” CBC

There is plenty of good music to vote for including Maritime favorites Hey Rosetta and Joel Plaskett.

Hey Rosetta’s Yer Spring is in nominated in the Best Song category.

Joel Plaskett’s On The Rail is in competition with Harlan Pepper for the most Canadian song.

Jenn Grant’s Getcha Good is in the running for Best Vocals. We have a soft spot for Grant – she’s an Islander and always impressed me as soft and quirky. I heard her onstage in Fredericton at the ECMA’s. Her guitar style seemed to be so ethereal as to be non-existent but effective.

There’s lots to listen to so check out the nominees and vote. The best way to check out the songs and artists is hit play at the top of the page and cycle through all the nominated songs. What else have you got to do at work with your headphones on?

There is a considerable amount of listenable music. Hats off to Radio 3 for the exposure for Canadian artists.
